Description

ND Yorkshire, York, S Maurice’s, Threepence Zinc Token

A nice example of this scarce nineteenth century church token.¬†Gary Oddie and Bob Lyall (Token Corresponding Society Bulletin Vol. 5 No. 6 and Vol. 6 No. 1) have suggested that this is a church token (one of three denominations) issued by St Maurice’s in York, most likely in the early 20th century. Diameter 26mm. Lightly worn and well detailed in unusually nice condition for a zinc token.

O: S MAURICE’S YORK.
R: 3D.

I would grade this token Very Fine (Sheldon AU50) but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.

For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
