Description

ND Lancashire, Bury, Carruther’s Tea Dealer, 1/8 ounce Tea Dividend Token

A nice example of this scarce nineteenth century token. Andrew T Macmillan (Token Corresponding Society Bulletin Vol. 7 No. 3 June 2002) has suggested that these tokens were used as farthings. Diameter 26mm. Lightly worn and well detailed with flashes of original colour.

O: EIGHT OF THESE WILL BUY AN OZ. * BURY * around a solid circle OF TEA AT CARRUTHER’S 1 MARKET ST.
R: THE RT HON. SIR ROBT PEEL BART. around a bust of Peel facing left.

I would grade this token Very Fine (Sheldon AU50) but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.

For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
