Description

ND Cheshire, Warrington, Cockhedge Mills Fire Brigade, White Metal Token

A nice example of this scarce nineteenth century token. Armitage & Ridleys’ Cockhedge Mills were nearly destroyed in a huge fire in February 1872, and were finally demolished in the 1980’s, Cockhedge shopping centre being built on the site. I have only seen one other piece which was a pierced example in the late Bill McKivor’s collection (Noonans 30/09/21, lot 329). Diameter 24mm. Lightly worn and well detailed.

O: COCKHEDGE / MILLS / FIRE BRIGADE.
R: A solid circle.

I would grade this token About Very Fine (Sheldon EF45) but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.

For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
