ND 1780’s Worcs, Kidderminster, Massey Wines & Spirits, Countermarked Halfpenny, Scott 39.1
A nice example of this popular countermark. Tentatively attributed by Gavin Scott to either Francis or Elizabeth Massey, but new research by Murray Andrews (Token Corresponding Society Bulletin June 2021, Volume 13, number 7, pp244-248) suggests that this piece was issued by Thomas Massey who traded at Kidderminster in the 1780’s. The host appears to be a Georgian halfpenny. Weight 7.61g. I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
