Description
ND (1694) Middlesex, London, Thomas Hatfield, Brass Lottery Ticket, D&W 319/9
A nice example of this very rare brass lottery ticket. The lottery was held at the Ironmonger’s Hall, which was rented for eight days by Hatfield at a guinea a day; such tokens served as tickets. Worn but well detailed.
O: Justice standing, facing, with sword and scales.
R: THE BEST / AND FAIREST / CHANCE AT / LAST.
This token is listed in Davis & Waters, Tickets & Passes of Great Britain & Ireland as D&W 319/9. I would grade this piece About Very Fine (Sheldon EF45), but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
