Description
1672 Co. Dublin, W.416, Dublin, Mic Wilson, “Butchers Halfpence” Halfpenny Token, N-
A nice example of this 17th century token struck from a die pair absent from the Norweb collection. These tokens appear to have been used extensively on the Isle of Man and were referred to as “Butchers Halfpence”. Worn but reasonably well detailed.
O: MIC WILSON OF DVBLIN around Butcher’s Arms and crest.
R: HIS HALFPENY 1672 around St. George and the dragon.
This token is listed in Dickinson as Ireland 416 and is unlisted in Norweb. I would grade this token Fine (Sheldon VF30). I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
