Description
Circa 1630, De Passe Gaming Counter, Charles I/Henrietta, Swords/Crowns Reverse, MI I 378/278, M.4796
A nice example of this early seventeenth century silver gaming counter produced by the school of Simon van de Passe. This is the first conjoined busts variety with swords and crowns reverse. Worn but well detailed. Listed in Hawkins, Franks and Grueber, Medallic Illustrations Of British History, Vol 1 as 378/278 and in Mitchiner, Jetons, Medalets & Tokens, Vol.3 as M.4796.
I would grade this token Good Fine (Sheldon EF40) but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
