Description
1797 George III Cartwheel Penny, C/M “READ LLOYD’S PENNY SUNDAY TIMES”, Scott 22.28A
A nice example of this countermark which is one of several varieties listed by Scott. Likely made circa 1846-47 and scarcer than the countermarks for Lloyd’s Weekly Newspaper. The host coin is well worn with a trace of bust and legend remaining visible. The countermark is clear.
I would grade the host coin Fair (Sheldon G6) and the countermark Good Fine (Sheldon VF35). I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.
For uncertified coins I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
