1900 (Philadelphia) Morgan Dollar, Paramount Red Holder

A beautiful Philly cartwheel presented in a desirable Paramount International Coin Corp red holder. Although this coin is not pedigreed to the Redfield Hoard, Paramount encapsulated the Redfield and non-Redfield coins around the same time in the late 1970's. Well struck and lustrous, this coin has developed the attractive amber, russet and burgundy toning for which the Paramount holders are well known. Paramount used black inserts for MS60 (uncirculated), red for MS65 (gem uncirculated) and green for better than MS65, so at the time this coin was encapsulated they considered it to be a gem uncirculated coin. Of course, that was before intermediate numerical grades were popularised by NGC/PCGS etc. I would grade this coin Choice Uncirculated (Sheldon MS64), but I have provided high-resolution close up photos so you can decide on a grade for yourself.

I provide a grading opinion using both the UK descriptive system and the Sheldon scale (based on ANA Grading Standards and/or PCGS Photograde) which will be better known to my US customers. I offer a grading opinion as a courtesy, but please examine the high resolution close up photos carefully and decide on a grade for yourself.
