Gordian III, 238-244 AD, AR Denarius, RIC 131 A beautiful example of this coin struck at Rome in 240 AD. One of a series of six special coins struck to commemorate the marriage of Gordian III to Sabinia Tranquillina in the summer of 240 AD. O: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R:VENVS VICTRIX, Venus standing left with helmet and sceptre, leaning on shield.
